Excerpt from
Minnesota

One of the first intriguing centers of interest to be explored was the local McDonald's restaurant. Sitting at a booth, with Sam and Rachel, Jerry and I were discussing the differences in the local culture and the acute feeling that we shared of being strangers. We did not notice Sammy pushing on a coffee creamer with this thumb. However, we did notice when white spots suddenly appeared on Sammy's face and we heard a startled cry from the next booth. Upon investigation, we noticed a lady with white spots all over her face, similar to those on Sammy's face. The lady's companion was loudly complaining about the white spots on her suede coat. The expression on both of the speckled faces was a mixture of amusement and astonishment.

While straining not to be entertained by the awkward predicament, we made copious apologies. The lady with the spotted face realized the humor in the situation and began laughing, which only served to further infuriate her companion. When offers to have the spotted suede coat dry-cleaned were angrily ignored and the laughter continued to exacerbate the lady's indignation, we came to the only expedient decision. We left as quickly as possible.

On the way to the car, Sammy asked his Dad, "Are we having fun, yet?"
